i called them, fuji in hayward, and they said they still process kodachrome, and it's only about $4! so if you have any cartridges lying around, put 'em in the bin while they're still processing!

kodachrome discontinued

fricking rat bastards!

See Kodak's press release:
> "With Super 8 gates now available for high end scanners, coupled with
> the VISION2 film technology advancements, Super 8 is what 16mm film
> used to be," says Mayson. "Super 8 color negative has become another
> option for professionals with low budgets."
>
> As part of the portfolio revamp, Kodak will discontinue sales of its
> Super 8 Kodachrome film. Final sales of Kodachrome Super 8 will be
> based on product availability over the coming months. Sales of
> Kodachrome 16mm film will continue, unaffected by this announcement.
>
> The decision to discontinue Kodachrome in Super 8 was driven entirely
> by marketplace dynamics.
>
> "Because the 'home movie' market has shifted to digital, sales of
> Kodachrome Super 8 film have declined significantly. In tandem with
> that decline, the availability of processing for Kodachrome Super 8
> cartridges has diminished. In other words, fewer and fewer labs
> worldwide have the machines and the chemistry necessary to process
> this film emulsion in the Super 8 format," according to Mayson.
>
> Kodak will give customers at least a year to process their Kodachrome
> Super 8 film with Kodak or to seek an alternative.
>
> As noted earlier, Kodak remains committed to the Super 8 format, as
> evidenced by the new film announced today, building on a product line
> that covers the needs of enthusiasts, from a choice of stocks in
> negative, Black and White and reversal films. Kodak's intent is to
> maintain the format as long as it is supported by marketplace
> conditions.

when i load my film into my yashica super 8 camera, sometimes it advances and sometimes it doesn't. does any one know why this may be happening and if anything can be done? i can take it to gassers here in s.f. and they can check it out for $15, but has any one else experienced this?

also, i fucked up the lens with sand and baby oil (i'll tell you more if you want...) and then tried to loosen it up with a screwdriver - le duh! which made it worse. is it easy to switch lenses on super 8 cameras? i bought this for almost nothing but i'm really attached to it because it has nice exposure and a dissolve function. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

anyone need a music score for their small film?

I play guitar and keyboards, I have a modest music studio and looking to make sound scores for small films. I have been an animator and filmmaker myself since my early twenties (mostly student productions), so I'm not a novice, but not an "experienced professional" either.

I'd like to help out on low budget production by creating the sound score. I can compose comfortably in the styles of: classical, electronica, alternative rock, jazz, bossa nova, flamenco, mexican "oom pa", spy thriller, tv themes (IE. Green Acres specialist), german nihilism, Amazon fire dance, Leprechaun break dance .. I guess I better quit while I'm ahead.

i just an optical printer class at film arts foundation, and didn't realize you can't go from super 8 to super 8 and just add effects. you have to film the new images in 16mm. this might not be a bad thing though, but i'm wondering how cost effective it might be. if i have a 20 minute super 8 movie, how much would it cost to use the optical printer and turn it into a 16mm film? is it cheaper than taking it to a place to get it transferred? just wondering if anyone else has experienced the optical printer...

thanks

This may seem like a stupid question, but I've got this old 8mm movie camera. I'm wonder what the difference is between that & super 8? Could someone comment on which is superior (if theres even a difference). Would it be worth bothing with to try & use the old camera I already have?

trigger release for super 8

Has anyone ever found a place to buy a trigger release (screws into socket on a super 8 camera) for shooting single frames? We have two (1 old, one foreign) cameras with the sockets but I lost the original trigger release cord. I've found a type in a local camera shop, but it was too large to screw in. The lady at the camera shop suggested Ebay as the only place to find such a thing... but no luck there...

Or... anybody have a spare they'd like to sell or trade...?

Thanks!
